The board carries the medical isolating transformer, the insulation monitoring device and load and temperature monitoring, and alarms the theatre panel on first fault so the procedure can be completed before maintenance intervenes. The IT earthing system is what makes this possible, and it is the reason a standard TN-S board cannot simply be relabelled for theatre use.
