- Non-return valves in swing, lift, dual-plate and spring-loaded silent patterns, opening on forward flow and closing under reverse pressure. Silent check valves close before flow reverses, which is what prevents the slam that damages pipework and hangers.
- Installed on every pump discharge in duty/standby sets so the standby pump is not driven backwards, on booster set risers, and on make-up and city-water connections to protect against back-siphonage. Spring-loaded silent types are specified on chilled water and fire pump discharges where check valve slam would otherwise be heard through the building.
