About

  • Allegion electrified hardware to the ANSI/BHMA A156 series: Von Duprin electric strikes and EL/QEL electrified exit devices, Schlage electrified locksets and electronic locks, power transfers, request-to-exit devices and XceedID and aptiQ credentials. Fail-safe releases on power loss, fail-secure stays locked, the choice is a life-safety decision, not a preference.

Application

Integrate the door with an access control system in offices, hospitals, airports and data centres, so the lock is released by a card reader while the door still latches mechanically. On escape routes the mechanical egress path must remain independent of the electronics: a card-controlled door that cannot be opened from the inside by hand when power fails is a code violation regardless of how the system is configured or what the software claims.

Standards & Reference 7 cited

  • UL 10C

The positive pressure fire test for door assemblies. Positive pressure drives hot gas through any gap between door and frame, which makes it the more demanding test and the one North American codes now call for.

  • NFPA 101

The Life Safety Code: egress width, travel distance and door operation on an escape route.
