Exit and Panic Devices ANSI & EN
About
- Exit and panic devices certified to both ANSI/BHMA A156.3 and EN 1125 / EN 179, with rim, mortise and vertical rod configurations available under either listing. Fire-rated versions carry both UL 10C and EN 1634-1 evidence in the same submittal.
Application
Used where a project's escape doors are specified to one code and the authority having jurisdiction works to another, or where an international tenant's standard has to sit inside a locally approved base building. Dual listing removes the argument at inspection stage, the point at which a door that cannot be re-certified is already installed and the handover date is fixed.
Standards & Reference 6 cited
UL 305
Panic hardware: the North American listing for exit devices, the counterpart to EN 1125.
EN 1125
Panic exit devices operated by a horizontal bar, for escape routes used by the public, where people may not know the building.
EN 179
Emergency exit devices operated by a lever handle or push pad, for routes used by people familiar with the building.
UL 10C
The positive pressure fire test for door assemblies. Positive pressure drives hot gas through any gap between door and frame, which makes it the more demanding test and the one North American codes now call for.
EN 1634-1
The European fire resistance test for door and shutter assemblies, and the basis for CE marking a fire door. Built on a different pressure regime from UL 10C, so the two ratings are not interchangeable.
