- Globe valves with a disc seating parallel to the flow, giving fine, repeatable throttling control and tight shut-off. The S-shaped body costs more pressure drop than a gate valve but allows the seat and disc to be reground in place.
- Used where flow has to be regulated by hand as well as isolated: pump discharge throttling, bypass legs, make-up water lines and coil branches on older hydronic systems. Also chosen on lines that are opened and closed frequently, because the seating action wears far more slowly than a gate wedge.
