Mechanical Locks ANSI & EN Standards
About
- Locksets, cylinders and keying systems available in both ANSI and EN configurations from a single supply chain, so one project can cover openings specified to either code. Useful wherever an international operator's standard and the local code do not agree, which on Gulf hospitality work is the normal case rather than the exception.
Application
Common on hotel and mixed-use projects where the operator specifies ANSI hardware for guest rooms while the base building is designed to EN, and on refurbishments where existing frames are prepared for one standard and new doors for the other. Supplying both from one source is what keeps the keying system unified across the whole building instead of splitting it in two.
Standards & Reference 6 cited
ANSI/BHMA A156.2
Bored and preassembled locks and latches: the cylindrical lockset family.
ANSI/BHMA A156.13
Mortise locks and latches: the heavier lock family let into the door edge.
EN 12209
Mechanically operated locks and locking plates, with the grading that describes duty, security and fire suitability.
EN 1303
Cylinders for locks, graded for key-related security, attack resistance and durability.
EN 1906
Lever handles and knob furniture, graded by duty, durability and corrosion resistance.
UL 10C
The positive pressure fire test for door assemblies. Positive pressure drives hot gas through any gap between door and frame, which makes it the more demanding test and the one North American codes now call for.
