(USA) Republic by Allegion
About
- Republic hollow metal doors and frames, an Allegion brand offering a value-engineered alternative to Steelcraft on the same manufacturing standards. Available in commercial and institutional gauges with the same fire ratings and hardware preparations.
Application
Selected on projects where a large repeat quantity of standard openings makes unit cost the deciding factor, residential blocks, labour accommodation, schools and warehouse offices. The specification advantage is that Republic and Steelcraft share hardware preparations, so a project can mix the two ranges without changing the ironmongery schedule.
Standards & Reference 5 cited
ANSI/SDI A250.8
The recommended specification for standard steel doors and frames: gauge, construction and grade. Often still called SDI-100.
ANSI/SDI A250.4
The physical endurance test for steel doors and frames: the cycle count behind a door's stated grade.
NFPA 80
Not a test but a compliance standard: how fire doors are installed, inspected and maintained, including the annual inspection and the requirement that every fire door self-closes and positively latches.
UL 10C
The positive pressure fire test for door assemblies. Positive pressure drives hot gas through any gap between door and frame, which makes it the more demanding test and the one North American codes now call for.
ANSI/BHMA A156 series
The American builders hardware standards, each part covering one product family and grading it Grade 1 to 3 by cycle testing.
