Electrical Supplies
Soft starters & variable speed drivers
About
- Motor starters control the use of electrical power to start and stop motors, safeguarding it by controlling voltage in order to prevent sudden surges.
- Advantages of motor starters include safe starting, overload protection, reduced inrush current, and control over start/stop operations.
- Motor starters work by controlling voltage delivery to the motor, initiating a soft start, and disconnecting power if an overload occurs.
- Enclosed direct-on-line starters for use on AS-Interface line up to 5,5kW/400V
Application
Chosen at design stage according to the driven load: direct-on-line for small fans and pumps, soft starters where mechanical shock and inrush must be limited on a fixed-speed load, and variable speed drives where flow or airflow is modulated. In HVAC and pumping plant the drive itself becomes the energy-saving measure, since fan and pump power falls with the cube of speed.
