Rectangular attenuator

Rectangular attenuator

Supplied by

  • AEROVAC by prime

About

  • AEROVAC rectangular duct silencers with acoustically absorbent splitters behind perforated galvanised sheet, tested by Intertek to ASTM E477, in dissipative and film-lined hygienic construction. Published data gives insertion loss per octave band together with self-generated noise and pressure drop.

Application

Installed immediately downstream of AHU supply fans and upstream of return fans, and in car park and kitchen extract ducts where the fan discharges near occupied space. Selection has to balance three things at once, attenuation, pressure drop and regenerated noise, because a silencer chosen only on insertion loss can end up being the loudest item in the duct.

Standards & Reference 6 cited

  • ASTM E477 (Intertek tested)

Acoustical and airflow performance of duct silencers, independently tested by Intertek. The method behind an attenuator's insertion loss and self-noise data.

  • AMCA 300

The reverberant room method for measuring the sound a fan emits. The source of the sound power figures used in an acoustic calculation.

  • UL 181

Factory-made air ducts and air connectors: the listing a flexible or fabricated duct carries.

  • ASTM E84

Surface burning characteristics: the flame spread index and smoke developed index a material is classified by. Class A is the usual requirement in an occupied building.

  • NFPA 90A

Installation requirements for air conditioning and ventilating systems, including where fire and smoke dampers are required.

  • EN ISO 7235

Measurement procedures for ducted silencers: insertion loss, flow noise and pressure drop. These are the three numbers an attenuator is selected on.
