Transfer silencers
About
- Short, high-attenuation silencers designed to fit in a wall or door transfer opening, passing air between two spaces while blocking the sound that would otherwise travel with it. Lined bends and z-shaped paths give attenuation in a very short length.
Application
Fitted in transfer openings between hotel rooms and corridors, between offices and plenums, and around plant room and generator room ventilation openings. They solve the problem created by ceiling-void return: an unlined transfer path is a direct acoustic connection between two rooms that the partition was built to separate.
Standards & Reference 5 cited
ASTM E477 (Intertek tested)
Acoustical and airflow performance of duct silencers, independently tested by Intertek. The method behind an attenuator's insertion loss and self-noise data.
ASTM E90
The laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss: the raw data a partition's acoustic rating is derived from.
ASTM E413 (STC)
Sound Transmission Class: the single number that summarises an ASTM E90 measurement, used to compare partitions and doors.
ASTM E84
Surface burning characteristics: the flame spread index and smoke developed index a material is classified by. Class A is the usual requirement in an occupied building.
EN ISO 7235
Measurement procedures for ducted silencers: insertion loss, flow noise and pressure drop. These are the three numbers an attenuator is selected on.
