Ceiling and HVLS (high volume, low speed) fans that move air within a space without ducting it, from decorative residential units to large-diameter industrial fans. An HVLS fan moves a very large volume slowly, producing a wide floor-level breeze rather than a narrow draught, and its performance is rated under AMCA 230 rather than the ducted-fan standards.

Used in warehouses, workshops, mosques, sports halls, atria and outdoor terraces. The air movement raises the acceptable dry-bulb temperature by roughly 2–3 K at the same comfort level under ASHRAE 55, so on Gulf and Egyptian projects they are commonly used to lift the cooling setpoint, or to make a semi-outdoor space usable with no mechanical cooling at all.
