Acoustical Enclosures & Sound Barrier Walls
About
- Modular acoustic enclosures and outdoor barrier walls built from absorptive-faced panels on a steel frame, with acoustic doors, glazed viewing panels and ventilation silencers built in, plus KNC sound curtain machine enclosures where a demountable solution is needed. Barrier height and length are set by the line of sight between source and receiver, not by the panel's rating alone.
Application
Enclose standby generators, chillers, air-cooled condensers, pumps and industrial machinery, and screen rooftop and ground-level plant from neighbouring buildings to meet a boundary noise limit. Ventilation is what makes or breaks the design, the enclosure must pass the machine's full cooling airflow through attenuators without raising discharge temperature beyond the plant's rating, which is the constraint that usually sets the enclosure size.
Standards & Reference 6 cited
ASTM E90
The laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss: the raw data a partition's acoustic rating is derived from.
ASTM E413 (STC)
Sound Transmission Class: the single number that summarises an ASTM E90 measurement, used to compare partitions and doors.
ASTM C423 (NRC)
Sound absorption measured in a reverberation room, reported as the Noise Reduction Coefficient. Absorption, not insulation: how much sound a surface soaks up rather than blocks.
ASTM E84
Surface burning characteristics: the flame spread index and smoke developed index a material is classified by. Class A is the usual requirement in an occupied building.
